Nånkåtån, new eco-material partner

We are proud to introduce in our eco-libraries fabrics from Nånkåtån, a Norwegian company which develops, manufactures and sells sustainable fabrics without cotton.

Through seven years the Norwegian company Nånkåtån has worked to find solutions to some of the textile industry ?s environmental challenges. The main goal has been to find an alternative that is equally strong or stronger than cotton, in order to reduce the textile production ?s water footprint and to avoid the use of pesticides and insecticides. Nånkåtån ?s Monocel thread is a sustainable alternative to cotton.

Monocel is a brand new thread developed by Nånkåtån. It is produced by high-tech spinning methods by Nånkåtån ?s exclusive manufacturer. The Monocel thread is twice as soft as cotton, stronger than cotton both when wet and dry, it is antistatic, antibacterial, bacteriostatic, rot-resistant and has great temperature regulating properties.

Monocel is based on the third generation bamboo fibre (after mechanically produced bamboo and bamboo viscose). The bamboo is processed in the most environmentally friendly technique available, in a closed loop, without any harmful chemicals being added. There are no harmful residual chemicals and no wastewater from this process, as chemicals and all water is recycled and reused.

Monocel enables lower washing temperature, reduces the need for detergents and irons easily.

Nånkåtån ?s headquarters is located in Oslo, Norway, with a sister company in Shanghai, China. This provides for proximity to all suppliers, sub-suppliers, and technical expertise. Nånkåtån has insight into and influence over its entire supply chain.

Nånkåtån´s first collection, Softwear, is a range of fabrics with and without stretch, especially intended for t-shirts, sweatshirts, technical sports shirts, underwear and workwear. Nånkåtån offers fabrics (by meter) and production of garments according to the customer ?s design. Nånkåtån Softwear is based on the experiences from the development of industrial textiles intended to tolerate extreme laundry treatments – washing at high temperatures and drying at 210 °C and 65 BAR pressure. Collections in progress include  jeanswear, knitwear and woven fabrics.
